Chhattisgarh opposes introduction of Bt brinjal

Raipur, Feb 1 (PTI) The Chhattisgarh government has opposed introduction of Bt Brinjal in the state saying there is need to conduct more tests to ensure if it is safe for consumption. In a letter the Union Minister of State for Environment Jairam Ramesh, the state government has specified its objection to the genetically modified brinjal, officials said here today. They said the state pointed out the ill-effects of the introduction of Bt Brinjal.

After the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), over 5,500 candidates successfully took the first ever computer-based test for admission to the management programmes of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Sunday, on the second day of the test. ‘Chhattisgarh got Rs.149 crore for police modernisation’

Chhattisgarh, one of the states worst hit by Maoist insurgency, has received Rs.149 crore aid from the central government since 2005-06 for modernisisng its police force, a minister said here Wednesday. In a written reply in response to a question asked by the opposition Congress, state Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar told the state assembly that Chhattisgarh has received the sum in a phase-wise manner for police modernization. The BJP minister told the house that the government has already utilised Rs.139 crore.
