An increasing number of scientists, those in the environmental movement, and everyday people are questioning the safety of the chemical products that we ingest and put on our bodies daily. The question is not whether toxic substances can be found in consumer products. They are there. They are supposed to be present in amounts too small to harm anyone. But it is within the realm of possibility that even these very small quantities can have negative effects. Some recent research seems to conflict with conventional wisdom about product safety. Environmental activists are now keeping some very common consumer products in their sights.

The American Herbal Products Association’s (AHPA) Board of Trustees at its most recent meeting adopted new guidance policies on microorganisms and mycotoxins, as well as heavy metals. The approval of guidance policies by the Board suggests that adherence to these guidelines will support responsible trade in herbal products and is in the best interest of consumers. Therefore, AHPA highly recommends members and industry follow the association’s guidelines in addition to its trade requirements.

I do know the tradition is to eat a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, pumpkin pie etc. but I’m a vegetarian, ertswhile vegan, for goodness sake…and I still wanted some exceptional food on this special day. It doesn’t get much better than this for a vegan feast

After the recent furore over the breast cancer guidelines, I’ve been ignoring the hype and hysteria in the news and quietly waiting for some thoughtful commentary from some breast cancer experts I respect. This morning I got my wish with an email alert from the New England Journal of Medicine. In it, two well respected breast cancer physicians from rhe Dana Farber Cancer Insitute have summarised their views in an editorial.

I learned just last week about an opportunity to get comprehensive genetic testing for $25 if you have Parkinson’s. The project is being funded by a grant from Google. As I understand it, the woman who founded 23andme is married to one of the founders of Google who has a genetic predisposition to Parkinson’s. Everything is connected in one way or another in this terribly interesting world of ours. Calls for participants from the company are reported below: Robert Rodgers, Ph.D

Pancreatic cancer is a devastating disease with a generally poor prognosis, largely because it is usually detected in late stage disease where chemotherapy options generally have a limited effect. Typically response rates with gemcitabine are around 5%, with advanced patients living around 5-6 months on average. Erlotinib , an EGFR inhibitor, is also approved in the USA for treatment of the disease, but the therapy only adds approximately two weeks to survival. Many doublets and triplets have been tried and tested over the last 10 years, with little impact on survival. It was, therefore, exciting to see some young researchers presenting interesting and novel strategies at AACR this week to try and evade the resistance inherent in the disease.

Question: Congratulations on finishing your book and thank you for making this available to those who are in need of help with the “charms” of PD. It has been 14 months since I was diagnosed and I shared this news with you when it was confirmed. My journey has made me try mirapex for l0 months which made me feel worse than the symptoms I had at the time mainly the fatigue. I stopped the mirapex three weeks ago and started amantadiine twice a day since then. I feel better being off of mirapex but I do not feel normal. The fatigue has lifted somewhat, I can stay up longer hours however I am still slow in movement, bad handwriting, constipation, mask, left leg trembles at times, back pain when I walk. I do eat a healthy diet and keep a good attitude most of the time. I still drive a car but just locally, no long trips. I challenge my brain with reading, scrabble games, chess games and going out to lunch often.
